COVID-19 Pandemic – Community Recovery pdf icon PDF 94 KB

Minutes:

The Committee considered a report which outlined possible key social challenges and issues to consider in the recovery phase of the Covid-19 pandemic.

In introducing the report, the Leader made specific reference and gave thanks to the critical role played by the voluntary sector in supporting communities through this period.  A key area for consideration was as part of the community recovery, whether there is now the opportunity to work differently with the voluntary sector and other partners.

The view was expressed that a cross party group should be established to consider the council’s response to the issues raised following the Covid-19 pandemic to ensure a balanced, member led response.  It was further suggested that in the first instance a meeting of the Chairs and Vice-Chairs of the Select Committees be convened with the Executive to discuss how to take the matter forward.

The ‘next steps’ in the suggested process were set out at paragraph 7.8 of the report and members comments and suggestions were invited.  Further detail was requested, and members were advised  that information around community priorities was being collated which would be presented.

RESOLVED:

1.         That the issues raised in the report be noted;

2.         That a cross party working group comprising members of all three select committees be established to work together to help formulate the draft Covid-19 Community Recovery Plan..

Any questions referred to the Executive Member (Democratic Services to be advised of any questions at least 4 days prior to the meeting) pdf icon PDF 43 KB

Minutes:

1.         Question received from Councillor Young

Due to the corona virus most events and fund raising have had to stop, with this in mind it has been difficult to use the council initiative fund money this year. My question is, is it possible to roll over this year’s money to add to next year’s money, thus giving a larger amount available. So when things are up and running again It will be of more use to the people who we give it to, helping the community to rise up again.

Response from the Leader

The Councillors’ Initiative Fund has been opened early this year so members could support arrangements around Covid.  Funding was also re-allocated from the VE day celebrations to assist those efforts.  It is intended that the Fund be reviewed in October / November and that top up funding may be made available to enable members to support more traditional schemes, and any funding not utilised may be rolled over to the next financial year.  There may be restrictions on funding schemes in April / May 2021 due to the scheduled elections.
